Affiliate Marketing crosses all the lines and is an integral part of many web sites.  Why?  Because there is money in affiliate marketing.  As you are surfing, pay attention and you will see  many web sites, whatever their main theme is, will also have elements of affiliate marketing included.  Even the big boys do it.  If the gurus are into affiliate marketing, you know there is money to be made.

You should also be careful to only promote good quality products.  Develop a good reputation and rapport with your customer base and that will enable you to sell to them again in the future.  There are many types and areas of internet marketing and you can often combine elements of more than one to your best advantage to monetize your home based internet businesses.

Having your own good content website or blog is the best way to go with affiliate marketing.  The affiliate products you  promote, should be related to the theme of your web site.  You want to presell on your site and send people to the sales page of the merchant.

A lot of web sites will tell you to sign up as an affiliate and just use adwords.  They will tell you a web site is not necessary for affiliate marketing. Don't you believe it!  This has been done in the past.  I've done it myself, and I will tell you, affiliate marketing without your own website is very hard!  Yes I did make money, but nothing significant.  Now, since google made new rulings   it is harder than ever without a web site and I don't recommend going this route.  And, not having a website, allows you no further contact with anyone who responds.  As an affiliate marketer, your own web site and domain name expands your possibilities for further  ongoing contact with those who buy the products and even those who do not.  A newsletter is just one option.

To get an overall picture of affiliate marketing, and to get some real expert advice from someone who makes the majority of her income from selling other people's products as an affiliate,  I recommend The Super Affiliate Handbook. This book was written by Rosalind Gardner who now makes 40-50K a month. Yes, that's month. This book is a classic, as ebooks go,  and it was updated in January of 2006. The new updated version contains 260 pages, and none of them are wasted. It is all good specific information about all the ins and outs of affiliate marketing. It will save you a lot of time, money, and mistakes.

Begin doing some brainstorming  Do you have hobbies that can be the topic for an affiliate marketing website?  Some of us don't, but we all have interests.  Maybe there is a topic or field of interest that you have never actively pursued but you really have an interest in.  This might be something you could look into to see if there is a market you can pair with affiliate products.

Another way to find ideas is to go to affiliate networks and sift through the products themselves.  This can also give you ideas of where to start.  But be sure to do the keyword research to see if whatever you choose is a good possibility as far as demand and the amount of competition. Affiliate marketing is like marketing anything else.  You need to be sure there is a market for whatever you are pre-selling.
