A niche website is one that is specifically focused around a tightly related topic. Avoid broad topics, you must narrow your topic down. For instance, dogs is a very broad topic so you would need to narrow it down to a specific breed of dog, or a topic that related to a specific need in relation to dogs, such as behavior problems. Combining a specific niche with affiliate marketing is a win-win.

You could create a series of niche websites within the broader topic, each related to specific breeds or specific behavior or health problems. This could be done with any broad topic that has great interest and a lot of searches. Then you market related affiliate products within these websites..

When you begin, you need to do research on your niche to see if there is enough interest. Choose a niche and do keyword research to see if there is a great enough interest without overwhelming competition.

One indication of a lucrative niche market is to see how many google adwords are listed for your topic. If there are a lot of ads, then it is likely this is a good topic.

Before making any final decisions on a niche, you also need to research related items that you could promote as an affiliate. If there is a diverse supply of products you can offer as an affiliate that pay a decent commission then you probably have a good match.

Whatever niche you have selected already has the interest of your readers and providing affiliate products that can solve their problems or fulfill their needs and wants is how you monetize your niche website.
