FTP
FTP is short for file transfer protocol. In everyday language what that means
is uploading your website to the internet. Another way of saying FTP is publishing your website. So what all this
means is transferring all the website pages and files you have created and accumulated on your hard drive to
your web host. Once you do this your website is live and ready for business on the internet.
The program you use to create your website may or may not include an FTP utility. You can find
an FTP tutorial here, and information on downloading a program to transfer your files to the
internet. FTP programs are offered free to download.
Don't get intimidated by FTP. They have to call it something, you know. Often just the title
given something can be unnerving. It is just a couple of dialog boxes, and you only need to know enough to get your
website up and running.
Go through the tutorial so you have a basic understanding of what to do and what information you
need from your web host.
When you sign up with a web host they usually send you the user information you need
when you FTP your website to the internet. Print a hard copy of this letter and keep it in a safe
place. I recommend printing a hard copy of anything such as your FTP info, affiliate info etc and keeping
a file. If your computer ever crashes you will be happy you did.
If FTP is something new to you, don't be intimidated. It's just a couple of dialog boxes.
Go through this FTP tutorial, see what info you need from your web host, and if you run into problems, a good web
host will help you out.
