One Way Links
One way links take some work, but they are the best links you can get for
promoting your website. Th
e very best one way links are those that are included in the
content of another website, directing visitors to your website. These are very hard to get and come only after you
are established and found to offer something of value to another website's visitors.
Until that great day happens, you will have to pursue one way links through any credible means
you can find. Some of those will be directory submission, social bookmarking, and blog comment.
Although directory submission were a great place in the past to get one way link, they have lost
much of their power. They still have a small place in marketing a website, but don't deserve as much attention as
in the past. One thing to consider when you do use directories, you want one way links, so I never use them if they
require a reciprocal link.
When seeking one way links, DMOZ is the first directory to submit to. All directories have
rules, most are very similar, but you need to read and follow them. DMOZ in particular has rules that should be
strictly followed. Read about DMOZ guidelines. Once you have submitted to DMOZ move on. Getting into DMOZ is really a leg up, but it won't happen for a long time,
so just do the submission and move on.
Web 2.0 and one way links
While directories and reciprocal links have lost much of their power on the net, be encouraged,
when one thing fades on the internet it is replaced with something else. And that something else today is web 2.0,
interactive sites such as facebook, digg, and blogs.
Social bookmarking
There are many social bookmarking sites on the internet and they all present possibilities for
the online marketer to get a good word in about what they are promoting. Just do a search for bookmarking sites or
have a look at this page which has a massive list of social bookmarking sites.
You can sign up and use these sites. Do use some judgement when you are promoting your site in
this way though. Bookmark other sites and write some blurbs of interest about them in addition to promoting just
your own site. This will appear far more natural, look much less self-serving and be of benefit to you.
It is best if you open an email just for this purpose, and use that email exclusively for login
and communication with these sites, because you will get mail. You can get a free email at Gmail.
Blog Comments
Blog comments are another way to get one way links. You will want to choose blogs related to
your niche and ones which support dofollow. You can use firefox to see if they are dofollow.
Each blog handles comments differently. Some allow anchor text inside the comment, some only
allow a link in the name you use etc. You will catch on as you go to different blogs.
To get your comment approved it is wise to again use some judgement. Don't just think you can go
and say something like "great post" "interesting stuff", and get approved. The site is giving you a one way
link. Give something in return. Read or at least scan the post. Write a couple of short paragraphs making a
reference to something specific in the post, or ask a question relating to something specific in the post.
Contribute!
The reason bloggers allow comments is because it builds fresh content on their site. When those
commenting make a contribution to the discussion that relates to the topic of the post it is in the blogger's best
interest.
When making blog comments, it is also to your best interest to contribute something of value.
Helping to maintain the integrity of the blog gives your link more value. And you may want to make return visits
and post comments to future posts. Thing about it. It's a win-win!
Next you'll find information about another good way to bring your website one way links, traffic
