Promoting a Website

Promoting a website is an ongoing process and there are too many ways to promote a website to cover them all here. Always have your ear to the ground for new ideas. And, they won't all be new just to you. New methods of promoting a website come along all the time. The internet is an ever changing creation. What works great now will not be so great in two or three years. But take heart, because other promotional methods will replace them.

Other ways of promoting a website that I haven't mentioned are signature files in all your emails, posting in forums (read their rules), RSS and Blog and Ping. Although I don't favor submitting to search engines, you should by all means submit to directories. DMOZ should be your first effort, and you can look for more directories to list in.

RSS and Blog and Ping are two excellent ways to promote a website. They are somewhat advanced, and I will probably cover them fairly thoroughly on this website at a later time.

Promoting a website through article submission is probably the very best method to start with, and should be an ongoing effort on your part.

PPC is another immediate method, but start slowly and track your results. Change your ads, and try different keywords and track everything to see if the results are worth the expense. As mentioned before, read the Google guidelines and rules for adwords so you know what you are doing.

Email marketing is also good over the long term, although it may take a while to develop a list of subscribers. But, just think you don't need stamps. Email marketing, like articles can be done with a larger investment of time than money when you are first starting out.

Offering free reports or ebooks with your website or newsletter link is another good method of website promotion. If you offer free reports that are free to re-circulate with the stipulation that your links remain intact you could get a lot of exposure.

Promoting a website is an action. By that, I mean you have to get involved, take action and work at it. Don't just wait around hoping something will happen.

One specific action that should be taken is trading links.
