Reciprocal Links

Reciprocal links can be a good thing, especially when your website is a new website and has no
page rank. All
websites start somewhere and have no ranking, even the major sites. Think
of reciprocal links as one of the major building blocks. You may be impressed by websites that boast a PR of 7--8-
or 9, but realize that they started at the bottom too. Just because you start at the bottom doesn't mean
you have to remain there. And keep in mind, you may be in good company. Many top internet sites that you admire started somewhere.
Getting links takes work. Face it. If you want to get to the top, or
near the top you will have to put in some effort.
Reciprocal links are a way to get started and build some page
rank. Better things will come later.
What to look for in reciprocal links
1. Look at the site. If you were merely surfing, would you
consider it a good website, or would you click away because it is a junk site? This will
help you determine whether or not they are a good reciprocal link partner.
2. Is it a site that relates to your website in some way?
Does it provide revelant content your visitor are likely to find useful? Relevancy has become
significantly more important in reciprocal linking and how your links factor into page rank.
3. Is the link page arranged in categorizes, and do they
limit the number of links per page? Don't link to sites that have one page of links that just go on and
on........., and are not categorized. They probably accept reciprocal links from anyone.
4. Is there access from the home page? Many sites do
not put a link to their link directory from their home page. So where is your reciprocal link?
5.. Check the address bar. Is the reciprocal link on their
domain, or have they shifted your link to a lesser domain?
There is much to be said about the value of reciprocal links these
days, but when you are just starting, or launching a new website what are your choices? Paid
advertising.
Running a reciprocal linking campaign can get your site indexed
and move it's ranking up in the search engines. Just be careful how you administer your reciprocal link
campaign.
Administer your reciprocal link campaign with common
sense
1. Link to good sites. (page rank is not necessarily a
factor. Good sites. run by aggressive- goal oriented marketers, will achieve page rank and you'll wish you had a
link from them later), but avoid reciprocal links with sites that serve no real purpose, are made up of endless rss
feeds or scraped content, or use black hat methods.
2. Be sure reciprocal links relate to your site in
some way.
