Small Home Based Business Websites

Small home based Business Websites are often under-valued
There seems to be a tendency to under-value small home based business websites. Many who
come to the internet in search of instant prosperity under-value the opportunity that is
here.
This is to a large degree because there are so many get rich quick schemes flaunted online. That
is unfortunate because a website run by a small home based business owner can, in time, be very lucrative.
It is my thinking that this mentality is in part because starting a home based business online
costs very little as compared to a traditional offline business.
In the offline world of business it is very costly to get started in business, and most
businesses that succeed often take five years to be in profit. To start an offline business you will need a lot of
start up money for such things as:
1. Leasing or purchasing a building
2. Buying merchandise and fixtures (This usually runs in the thousands of dollars)
3. Payroll for employees
4. Utilities and running costs
5. A backup fund so you have enough money to live on until you make a profit
6. If your business is a franchise you have a sizeable fee going in ( a franchise for a carpet cleaning business or
a sandwich shop could run 90K)
And this is just a partial list.
Small home based business websites are very cost effective
In contrast, a small home based business can be set up for very little. The cost for hosting a
website per month is about the same as a good dinner out. A domain name for your business will cost around ten
dollars a year. If your home based business website features tangible products, they can be obtained on a drop ship
basis, so you don't pay until they are sold
If your website promotes affiliate products you never handle the products, the vendor takes care
of payment processing, so all your home based business is required to do is presell the products to your
visitors.
And yet, people come online and set up a small business website and if it is not profitable in a
short period of time they get discouraged and quit. Now, let's think about that. If they had 90 or 100K invested
how much time would they give?
Treat your home based business as seriously as an offline
business
I believe the key to starting up and running a successful home based business website is looking
at it and treating it just as seriously as you would an offline business in which you would make a major
investment. In an offline business your investment would be a substantial amount of money. Online what you invest
is your time and patience.
Don't expect immediate success. Give your small home based business the same dedication you
would if you had a large amount of money tied up in it, work on building it and expect to give it at least a year.
If you're fortunate you will see results before then, but be realistic.
